Back in October, Kodak held a contest to capture a photo that embodied the idea of “fall sports.” It was the weekend before Halloween and a snowstorm was set to hit, it felt like my last chance to find a composition to submit for the competition. I grabbed my dad’s Hasselblad 500C medium format camera, a roll of Kodak Gold 200 and Portrait 800 and headed over to Washington Park to see if I could find a good photo of a basketball hoop in front of some fading fall foliage. I ended up walking around the park for nearly 2 hours, circling the abandoned courts as the temperature dropped and snow started to fall. I wandered in an almost dream-like state as I felt one season change to another. I couldn’t have asked for better conditions for such an assignment, and I came away with a dozen shots that I’m really happy with. I didn’t win the contest, but I’m very proud of these images so I decided to share them as a little editorial piece. I hope you enjoy this walk through Shoulder Season.
